Mr. and Dr. Shields were perfect for each other. He was a professor, she a surgeon. Their eyes would light up when the other entered a room. They could make each other laugh with a single look, cheer each other up with a light touch or a soft kiss. It was like they were falling in love with each other all over again every single day. They found happiness within each other, and within their family. They had two beautiful children, three years apart: James and Juliet.

Her childhood was picturesque: a beautiful house with a yard and a pool, a supportive and loving family, good grades, many friends, and even more adventures. It wasn't until Juliet was eighteen when tragedy struck and her gaiety was distinguished.

A drunk driver slammed into the minivan, causing it to roll twice before crashing into the guardrail. Her mother died on impact, her father hours later on the operating table. James' heart stopped for three minutes, but the doctors managed to bring him back. Since that fateful day, he's been in the same room in the hospital, comatose, visited by Juliet at least twice a week, sometimes more. Juliet was lucky, or so she was told. A broken leg, fractured rib, and two deep cuts - both needed stitches. Within a year, she had fully recovered. Physically, at least.

Before the accident Juliet had wanted to be a lawyer, either criminal defense or legal malpractice. She wanted to help people the way her parents did, the way her brother was beginning to. Now, Juliet isn't sure what she wants to do with her life - a life that feets as if it ended years ago.
